Individual Reading. "The Moon and Sixpence" by S. Maugham (Chapters 1-11)

The author writes about an artist who had a very extraordinary life-story. Charlse Strickland is the artist who had no success in his art activity during his life. Some people considered him to be a good family man, others didn't miss an opportunity to present him in a bad light and as an immoral "monster" who left his family. The author knew Strickland closer than others. He was attracted to the original personality of the artist and watched carefully his life.

The author being a young writer and having his first literary success was invited to breakfast by Mrs. Strickland, a wife of Charlse Strickland. Her husband didn't attend such events: he prefered to be alone. Suddenly the tradition of Mrs. Strickland's breakfasts was interrupted. The author tried to learn what's up and knew that Strickland left his wife and went to Paris. Mrs. Strickland was confident that her husband ran off with a young female singer. She asked the author to follow him and persuade him to return to his family.
